Hi Fear! It's Nice To Finally Meet You!

One of the ways that I have found to truly heal from all the fear in my life, and to balance out my emotions, is by understanding who I am using the Enneagram. Now this is an ancient process. Let me read to you a short description of it.

"The Enneagram is a study of nine basic types of people. It explains why we behave the way we do, and it points to specific directions for individual growth. It's an important tool for improving relationships with family, friends, and coworkers."

Now, as it says, there's nine types. I am a 'Six' on the Enneagram.

So what is that? The six is the 'Questioner'.

There's a quote here by Charles Schultz. It says "I've developed a new philosophy. I only dread one day at a time."

'Sixes' are motivated by the need for security. Phobic sixes are outwardly fearful and seek approval. Counter-phobic sixes confront their fear. Both of these aspects can appear in the same person.

I'm not going to talk about phobic or counter-phobic or any of that kind of stuff. I don't know that much about it to explain it, but I certainly understand now the role of fear in my life. And knowing this, I have felt a great weight lifted off me. I feel like the curtains have been pulled aside and I see now. I understand why I have acted, or better said reacted so much during my lifetime. Why I was always angry!

That's the way my fear showed up is anger. So my good friend, my mentor, my coach, and Enneagram expert, Linda Frazee, she and I have worked on this for several years. And I have such a deeper understanding of who I am, which is a huge gift!

Now, my fear, this fear, has held me back from a lot of things. I wasn't making good decisions. I was making impulsive decisions from my head without getting any input from my body. I couldn't trust myself. And I couldn't be who I really was.

I'll give you an example. When I was married in my early twenties, my husband and I got into a big fight and he was kind of marching around saying, 'you're this' and 'you're that.' 'And you're this. And you're that.' And even though I know those things, weren't true, all I could do is sit there in terror and think to myself, 'Oh, he's he's right. He's right. He's right.'.

And of course, none of that was right, but I could not stand up for myself in that moment. I was terrified. So now, I have a much clearer idea of how to run my life.

I have a much clearer idea of how my upbringing impacted my fear. It wasn't anybody's fault. Nobody did anything wrong. It's just that behavior - plus my fear - was overwhelming! I wanted to bring this up because this was a really important way for me to heal.
