I have diabetes. Now what do I do?

Nov 02, 2021

Diabetes is a symptom of a body out of balance.  Perhaps even a life out of balance. It''s a metabolic dysfunction disorder. It's hormone imbalance, and it's about carbohydrate intolerance. This has a widespread effect on your body, mainly because it really affects blood vessels and nerves among other things. You have blood vessels and nerves everywhere! So it's going to affect everything to one degree or another.

It complicates processes that affect your brain, your heart, your liver, your cells, and all of your metabolic processes. It also affects your emotional health, and your mental health.

Now let's consider the two types of diabetes.

Type one is an auto-immune illness. It's where the pancreas, for some reason, the cells have been destroyed and they are not capable of making any or enough insulin to support the body. Often, this is diagnosed when you're a child, and sometimes not till you're a teenager. Sometimes not until you're a young adult. So imagine the challenge of using external insulin to try to manage all of those complicated processes in your body.

It can be done, of course. People live very well on it, but type two diabetes is a little bit different. You have more control in your hands. This is caused by some lifestyle issues that you've been living with that perhaps you need to take a look at. Once you change those lifestyle issues, you can really find a great way to manage your diabetes and support your body back to health.

So where do you start?

One, understand what diabetes is, how it works, what insulin is, what blood sugar is, and how it all works together. And, how it affects your body.

Two - understand and know how to measure your blood sugar. Then, to know what do you do with those numbers. How can you use them to help manage your diabetes?

Three - You're going to have to take a look at your diet. What are you eating and drinking? And that's probably where the biggest change will come. Probably not the most comfortable one, but it actually can be done and you'll feel a lot better when some changes are made there.

You'll also need to take a look at other lifestyle issues. Like how much sleep are you getting? How much exercise are you getting? How much water are you drinking? How are you dealing with stress? That type of thing - because, although they're indirect to a certain extent, they do impact the body and diabetes.

And finally, it's an opportunity to check your mindset. I encourage you to think about this as an opportunity as a way to say, okay, up until now, I've been living my life in such a way that now I've created all these imbalances. This is an opportunity for me to start to make some changes so that I can be healthier as I get older and really avoid some of the serious complications of diabetes.

I have two opportunities for you. One is a free 30 day guide that you can download. It does talk about, understanding diabetes. It looks at the numbers. It looks at some of the dietary changes and sleep and exercise. And I think it's a good place to start.

Second, I offer a free diabetes assessment call. This is a 30 minute call where we'll talk about your situation and I'll see if I have resources that can support you.

Thank you so much for listening.
