The Meaning of Thanks Giving for Me

Nov 24, 2021

When I feel tired, scared, sad, or overwhelmed in my life, I turn to gratitude. I think about all of the wonderful things in my life that I'm grateful for - my family, my friends, my cats, all of it.  I'm grateful for the people in my life who guide me and support me and care about me. I'm grateful that I have a roof over my head. I have a car that takes me where I need to go, and I have the resources for food and to be comfortable in my home.

Recently, I was blessed with the opportunity to go to Peru for two weeks. It was an amazing trip - for the experience of Peru and my experience of myself when I was there. The landscapes are beautiful. The history is amazing.

We went to the ocean, we went to the mountains, we went to the Amazon river. It was exciting, and there was a lot going on. The people there were very kind and generous to us.

I'm especially grateful for my friend Cerise who is the tour guide. She does these amazing trips, spiritual journeys to Peru, and she took care of us from start to finish. We didn't have to deal with any problems at all. She made all the arrangements ahead of time and when arrangements kept changing, she kept taking care of everything.  She speaks the language so it was very easy for us.  Everything was smooth and we felt taken care of.

I'm also grateful to be home. One of the best things about being away is being able to come home and sleep in my own bed, see my kitties and be back in my own routine.

When you feel out of sorts or sad about what's going on in your life or you don't feel you have enough or whatever it is, I encourage you to look in your life and see what you have and are thankful for. I encourage you to thank the people around you. Thank the woman who brings your food at the restaurant. Thank the man who holds the door for you.

Whatever it is, people are being kind. And the kind thing to do is to acknowledge that with a thank you. This is the season of thanks and gratitude. For me, this is a practice I will carry into every day in my life.

Not always easy, but with an intention, I can do it at least more often than I have been. I hope you have a very peaceful and safe holiday season.

Thank you so much for listening.
